If you could choose one thing to be remembered by, what would it be?
Many choices I have made in my life will never be forgotten by those whom I’ve harmed. I pray for their healing, but not that they forget. Many choices I have made in my life will never be forgotten by those whom I’ve helped. I pray for their health, and that they remember.
So many choices: I made. I decided. Some of those choices hurt so many people profoundly and so I have hurt so many badly. For me to ever pretend to any other truth would deny myself the opportunity to grow beyond those scars. There can be no journey without a first step. I have struggled for years with the guilt and self-reproach that has come with the failures in my life. My failures. The first step for me is in realizing that this is not all that I am. I strive to move beyond my self-pity by accepting responsibility and becoming a better person. I am not perfect, but I am better.

If I could choose one thing to be remembered by… I would have it be my self. No single act defines me and my definition is not yet complete. Please don’t judge me yet because I still live. I am not sure what I am seeking on this journey, but I am reaching out for something. In my words may be a purpose. Perhaps even some reason. This is a part of my journey and I hope I find someone to walk with me. This is my life. May I be remembered as I am, not as I once was.
