The ups and downs of my life
Have left its scars on my very soul.
Some wounds are far from being fresh
and others have yet to close.
Behind each of those scars
There is a lesson 2 B learned,
Deep beneath every scratch, bump, bruise
& 3rd degree burn lessons were learned!
The game of life seems to have
A firm grip on its participants.
The rules are encrypted with a code
For those who know not
That the game is be played
And not played with.
For others, it is transparent, but apparent
That they too get bumped and bruised.
I personally chose to open & close specific doors
To my benefit or dismay.
Regret has kissed me repeatedly
And fucks me often even til this very day.
I made my choices, and dealt with
The challenges that created the change.
I return to my corner battered but
Humble by this brutal and dirty game.
I am who I am but still
Learning whom I’ll ultimately choose to be.
In the midst of all that exist,
Just like life, death too will have its way with me.
