As I make my way through the night
All I see is my piercing light
I must be ready before the flight
As I’m busting holes in the frozen water
I keep going, farther and farther
I spread the decoys one by one
This must be done before the sun
Once you see the break of day
You know it’s time to sit and stay
As the ducks come in for their landing
You must be ready, up and standing
When you pick one out of the flock
Pull the trigger and take the shot
It hits the water with a splash
Your dog is ready and makes a dash
He retrieves your prize to the hand
Now you’re ready to go again
As the sun rises high into the sky
You know the ducks will not fly
It’s time to go, you cannot stay
But you know tomorrow’s another day
