Michael’s Weekly Diary 21.03-27.03.22
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: „Focus on feeling better by releasing the pain or guilt of wrongdoings. Every moment is a new opportunity to grow a more forgiving heart“.
Monday April 4. Today’s Bible reading: Exodus 18: 13-22. Another week starting with high expectations- but rarely realized. Breakfast more corn flakes- no biscuits or potatoes. Then lunch is expected to be pizza and salad- one of our favorite meals- but were served hamburger slop and bowtie macaroni. Very disappointing to say the least.
Tuesday April 5. Today’s Bible reading: Psalm 139: 13-24. More frosted flakes for breakfast- was hoping for the biscuits & potatoes from yesterday…. Then lunch was good with parmesan chicken patty & pasta with tomato sauce. Dinner was expected to be BBQ beef but were given more hamburger slop- this time with rice. Apparently the chow hall kitchen and serving lines are being renovated so everything is ripped out- which (we hear) caused a mouse infestation to occur- seems like mouse nests were all into the equipment they took out. We were notified we would be getting a „bag lunch“ tomorrow instead of our hamburgers and fries- hope they get the new stuff put back in soon…
Wednesday April 6. Today’s Bible reading: James 1: 19-27. Breakfast surprise today as we got pancakes and oatmeal instead of frosted flakes again! Windy today & hot as another front is moving through to bring rain tonight and tomorrow. Lunch delivered with 2 bologna sandwiches and a pack of 6 cookies made in India, instead of the regular burger & fries. Facilities were here to unclog the 2 urinals & replace the flusher on a toilet. Everything is working again right now…We are hoping dinner will be the spaghetti & meatballs which is on the menu- but- NO! More bologna sandwiches tonight again. I had a bag of tuna so made a tuna salad sandwich instead. Supposed to be fried chicken for lunch tomorrow but I’ll be expecting more bologna so I won’t be disappointed.
Thursday April 7. Today’s Bible reading: Genesis 24: 12-20. Storm warnings this morning so lunch was delivered to us – Fried chicken actually came through today- and it was pretty good! Mashed potatoes, mixed vegs. Should be hot dogs tonight- most everyone likes them if they’re cooked correctly. Big surprise- no hot dogs, but Swedish meatballs- with spiral macaroni and lots of gravy- so better than it ever has been. They surprise us in a good way once in a while…
Friday April 8. Today’s Bible reading: Psalm 27: 1-6. More bran flakes for breakfast. Lunch supposed to be tuna salad- but- picked up the burgers & tater tots we were supposed to get on Wednesday. All was cold when we got back but still not bad after heating up a little. Town hall meeting with Unit Manager Jimenez to tell us about the new „modified“ operations under GREEN level 1 Covid restrictions- such as rec yard with the whole building, opening education, library, chow hall, chapel, workers from all units can work together, etc. Almost „normal“ operations. We also received 16 new people from B1 unit so we’re filling up fast with 158 here right now. Found the urinals are leaking from the drain pipe into my sink room, making the floor wet & we track all that mess through the whole unit & our cubes. Facilities called to fix.
Saturday April 9. Today’s Bible reading: Colossians 4: 2-6. Oatmeal for breakfast- milks were sour yesterday so hope they’re OK today- seems they are. Cool morning- temps. in the 50’s with high winds. Wish I’d worn my coat to pick it up. Lunch of breakfast burritos was pretty good today also. Facilities emergency plumber called to see if the leak can be fixed- not until Tuesday it seems but 2 urinals have been shut off to slow the flow. Chili for dinner with butterfly pasta instead of rice- acceptable.
Sunday April 10. PALM SUNDAY. Today’s Bible reading: Matthew 21: 1-11; „See, your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey…“ Cold morning- in the 40’s for maybe the last cold front this spring. Picked up grits and a muffin. Lunch had boiled eggs & potatoes, French toast. I think dinner was beef tacos but I was out on the rec yard walking the track, and they didn’t announce the call to go to chow so I missed it. No great loss.
