Michael’s Weekly Diary 17.01-23.01.22

Thought for the day :
„Today is God’s gift to me – what I do with it is my gift to God“.

Today’s Bible reading – Hebrews 12:1-3, 10-13. Monday Jan. 17, 2022. Cold morning – went to pick up breakfast – just corn flakes & pink cake today – so I made blueberry & cream oatmeal instead. Holiday today is Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Should have a „special“ meal for lunch but probably just the chicken we didn’t have last Thursday – but when picked up, found a half-chicken, or much bigger, than usual quarter chicken piece, collard greens; black-eyed peas; and rice – so it was better than expected. Chicken was cooked well and tasty! Slow day – Holiday schedule so nothing happening. Dinner is late – for some reason it was delivered tonight at 6:25 – supposed to be chili but got 2 slices of bologna, 1 slice turkey, black beans & rice. Don’t know why it’s delivered – also no rec workers called to work, no rec called either – something must be going on – if I find out, I will let you know…

Today’s Bible reading – Isaiah 53:1-6. Tues. Jan. 18. Colder this morning – picked up corn flakes, chunky mixed fruits & cake, milks. Breakfast served as usual – went there & picked up so no idea why the dinner delivery last night. Ate the fruit, made a Pop-Tart. Milks are dated the 17th so one day over the date to use. Probably still good – I’ll find out at lunch time. Yes – they seem to be fine today – we’ll see what date they are tomorrow. Lunch picked up – as advertised – chicken patty sandwich, beans, rice. Rec called at 12:30 but I stayed in today & napped. Dinner also as advertised – pepper steak (but only a tiny piece of pepper), rice, green beans. Not too bad – wondering where they are getting all the beef for the many beef dishes lately – used to be ground beef all the time. Facilities still not here to fix my (now) 3 broken sinks – hoping for this week yet. Finally got my „US Weekly“ magazine again after it was stopped for some reason on Nov.1 – they extended it for another year – must be a mistake by them so I’ll wait to see if they correct that – (should only be for the 10 missing weeks).

Today’s Bible reading – Matthew 26: 36-46. Wed. Jan 19. Frost on the grass this morning – picked up pancakes, oatmeal & banana today. Milks dated the 24th so should be ok – will find out at lunch time. VoTec classes called late today due to lock-down census count. Picked up lunch – burger, fries. All was cold so had to heat it up using hot water. Finished eating just before being called to commissary – nice day outside so it was good to be out again for at least an hour – more items back in stock so getting more stuff every week. After 4pm count, went to pick up dinner expecting taco salad – but found „chef’s salad“ instead – which is generally better liked than the taco salad. Lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, carrots & red cabbage, boiled egg, ranch dressing, bow-tie pasta salad.

Today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 1: 1-7. Thursday Jan. 13. When doing my job cleaning the sinks this morning, I found 2 of the unused soap dispenser brackets had been removed (stolen) off the wall during the night. I’d like to remove the remaining dispensers & brackets altogether so it won’t happen again – we’ll just have to use the bar hand soap instead – (they mostly use the liquid hand soap for washing dishes anyway). More later… Went to pick up breakfast – corn flakes, chocolate cake, & milks. Came back & made a Pop-Tart instead – saving the cake for later today. Facilities still not here to fix the sinks – as expected. Many names called to R&D – 8 so far today going home – some of the „thousands“ being set free from earning time-off credits in the First Step Act from 2018 – the BOP is finally getting this under way after the head of the BOP is resigning. FYI – inmates participating in taking certain classes or working certain jobs can earn 10 days time-off credit for every 30 days of „programming“ or „working“. We’re told „thousands“ will be released to home confinement, halfway houses or supervised release as soon as the credits are given out to eligible inmates. Picked up lunch – supposed to be BBQ chicken quarter but got chicken stew – with veggies, peppers, on rice, with green beans & bread. Must not have had enough chicken to feed us all so had to improvise… Called to rec at 12:45 – should have been 8am but schedule has changed – stayed in & napped. Very little at mail call again- only USA Today. Still haven’t gotten my Tuesday paper… Picked up dinner – should be Chicken Lo Mein but given hot dogs, baked beans, & green beans. Never know what we’re going to get to eat lately…

Today’s Bible reading – John 9: 1-12. Friday Jan. 21. Shower lights won’t come on this morning – the electronic light panel shows them on but they’re not coming on. Picked up breakfast of French toast & oatmeal- ate it all. Milks saving for lunch & dinner later. Supposed to have „Team“ meeting yesterday but didn’t happen – hope to today with Ms. Brin. She’s been busy with computing the time-off figures from the newest First Step Act reductions- many inmates going home lately due to gaining time-off days – Leading Edge Research Team reports 4,800 released in this first week, but not confirmed yet- we’ll see how many it will be. Lunch should be baked fish- but picked up tray with breaded fish filet, black beans, rice & bun. Nap interrupted by mail call – People magazine & 2 USA Today’s (including the missing Tuesday edition). Later – picked up dinner tray – supposed to be chicken fajitas but found chicken patty Parmesan instead – with bow-tie pasta, peas & bread. I guess they’re making up for the many weeks we had no chicken patties – no complaints here – was very good. Still no „Team“ meeting today – maybe next week.

Today’s Bible reading – Genesis 3: 1-10. Sat. Jan. 22. Picked up breakfast – expecting bran flakes but got pancakes & oatmeal – I had already eaten my Pop-Tart earlier but ate all the rest anyway. Very cold & windy again this morning – another front has come through – at least we don’t get the snow & ice down here – at least yet… Quiet morning – called to lunch late again – 12:30 to pick up scrambled eggs, potatoes & flour tortilla to make a pseudo – breakfast burrito – it’s always pretty good. Eggs today are very yellow & tasty – still cold outside, a cloudy & windy late January day – only in the 50’s. Had a little nap before 4pm count. We are one of the last units to pick up dinner (at 6pm) – roast beef, mashed potatoes, collard greens. For once my beef was very overcooked – like beef jerky and inedible. Mashed potatoes (instant) were decent but that’s all I could eat. Had some Christmas cookies for „dessert“. Very disappointed with the beef – I’ve usually gotten a great piece – I guess it was my time for the „jerky“ piece many others have gotten…

Today’s Bible reading – Acts 2: 32-41. Sunday Jan. 23. Breakfast pickup was as the menu said – grits, bread & muffin. Haven’t seen grits for a while so not expected and not eaten (I don’t like grits). Had my usual Pop-Tart, will have the muffin later today. Green Bay Packers NFL football team (my original team – I’m from Wisconsin) played the San Fransisco 49ers last night in the playoff round – they were the first seed, with the best record in the NFL so were expected to win the game – but I found out this morning the Packers lost after a blocked punt gave the 49ers a late touchdown to tie, then the 49ers made enough plays at the end to kick a field goal and ended up winning. Packers have been one of the top teams for many years but can’t manage to win a playoff game… hopes were to go on to the Super Bowl. My Tampa Bay Buccaneers play this afternoon & hope to win to go on and try to get to, then win, a third Super Bowl, and a consecutive second win after winning last year. Lunch called – picked up scrambled eggs, French toast, potatoes. A whole lot of eggs today – everything was very good. Going to nap until the Bucs game at 3pm. Game is on – not sounding good. Bucs can’t get anything going – fell way behind losing 20-3 at halftime. Second half better but still behind until tieing it up at 27 each with 40 seconds left – Rams pushed down the field in 2 plays and with 4 seconds left kicked the winning field goal to win 30-27. Bucs season is over. Went to pick up dinner – should be BBQ shred chicken but given bologna, turkey, cheese & bread with beets. Made turkey sandwich & had the beets. Very disappointed the Bucs season is over – too many injuries & best players out this time. Don’t know what will happen with many players next year – time will tell.
