In the midst of fire and shame,
The poison burns of endless shame;
The fear and tears coming in waves,
Terrified of living another day.
Leaves turn green, then fall away,
Seasons renewing death and decay,
Yet remains the bite of shame,
A tormentor refusing to ease the blame.
Then one day a fire sparks ablaze,
Promising redemption from past days;
A wave of hope attacks the shame,
Seeming to win, then, withers and wanes.
Hope it hides-resisting-refusing to recede,
Patiently awaiting growth as a seed;
It smothers the fire of fearful shame,
Turning flames, black, into golden rays.
The light, it cleanses the stench and filth
Of a soul battered with accumulated guilt;
It heals the soul and a life makes whole,
As hope grows and its roots take hold.
Transforming the terrain of troubled thoughts,
From black to gold the heart beat starts,
Pushing pulses of imparted life,
Taking corruption and making it right.
