THOUGHTS ON MATERIAL/SPIRITUAL

At times we may profess ourselves as more enlightened than those of the past. We claim our values have been more filled with light and goodness as a result of this better enlightenment. But then one is left to look around at life, and wonder why then, are atrocities more vile and prevalent now than at any other time. While laws of society have increased, categorizing everything of life within its shadow, it seems the spiritual laws that man had to himself have lessened to almost a point of non-existence. Man less and less governs himself these days, and instead gives all authoritative ability to people, as well as things, outside of himself.

It becomes obvious under the light of this examination, that man’s more “enlightened state” is no form of enlightenment at all, but a regression of spiritual luminosity. What then can we point to as the reason for such a state? How could a society with so many laws produce such an unlawful quality of man as its result? Does society even foster the promotion of spiritual man?

Anyone with eyes can see the lopsided balance of the spiritual and material aspects of today’s society. While we were once a people that balanced such things, today the principal side of life is unquestionably the material side. The world has steadily progressed in all manner of technology and production, thus producing an abundance of variety in all things material. With such a seemingly unending field for the eyes and hands, which concentrates the mind as a result, the spirit has been put within this shadow and rarely interacted with. The more things that have come our way, the more values have gone away. With so much going on, with so much new coming out, we have little if any true focus. Society has set up the non-spiritual as necessity, for without the material, how can one even live in society?

Today man is being cast down from amongst the heights he previously attained, plummeting towards the ground at frightening speeds. If one cannot balance the spiritual and material aspects of life, then one must place the spiritual first and foremost, no matter the cost, for unless one does this, one is destined to be no more than a glorified animal.
