As I sit alone in my cell at night
My heart aches with a deep regret,
For all the moments I’ve missed in life
For all the memories I’ll never get.
I watch my daughters grow up in pictures,
Captured moments frozen in time,
A glimpse of their smiles, their laughter,
A reminder of what I left behind.
Their faces change, their eyes grow wise,
They blossom into women before my eyes.
And though I can’t be there in person,
Their love still fills my heart with pride.
I see their joys, their triumphs, their fears,
Their first steps, their graduations, their tears,
And though I can’t be there to hold them near,
My love for them will never disappear.
I wish I could be there to guide and protect,
To share in their joys, their triumphs, their regrets,
To hold them close and never neglect,
The gift of family that I once had and lost.
So tough I watch them grow up in pictures,
A world away from where I sit,
I know that my love will always be with them,
And I pray that one day we’ll be reunited again.
