Man is a beast at times. This should not be so. We have an intellect for a reason. Too many times we dwell on our pasts. The mistakes we’ve made, and opportunities lost, or passed up. Our pasts chain our minds in a prison of regret. Just as we do this to ourselves, so also do other people do this to us. We all have a past, but our pasts should not define our future.
How can we have a future of we remain in our pasts state of mind? These strong emotions keep us in our regret and imprison us in hurt. We must use our intellect and envision what we want for ourselves in the future. These types of people are goal orientated people. Successful people are goal oriented people. We all want better things for ourselves, a better life, family, possessions. But whatever our goals are, we must not let our emotions keep us from them. Other people want to keep defining our character by what we have done in the past. We all make mistakes, everyone of us. But we must strive to become a better person, always.
A loser is someone who has given up on themselves. I was a loser once! I had given up on myself. I was lost. But, today I am thankful that God gave me the wisdom to see the errors of my own thinking. I asked God to help me to be a better man.
I realized that as long as I never give up on myself, I am not a failure. My drug addiction kept me from thinking clearly to see this error. I let negative people define my being.
Poison people want to keep us in this prison of our minds by reminding us of our past. But let me tell you something. We are better than that! Each and every one of us has the ability to be a better person, to live for a better future, to nurture one another.
“Never give up, never, never, never.” – Winston Churchill said during World War II. This is warfare to which there is no equal, and the stakes are my future. So live not for the past, but strive for the future. “A human without limits is an unruly beast.”
