I relate to being in the dark, sometimes more that I care to admit. Years of making it through the darkness and surviving whatever I was going thru, shows me that I can and will make it because I’ve already made it this far.
We adjust to almost everything, it’s human nature, and it’s how those adjustments effect us and change us, that truly define how we become and who we are as people. Some adjustments are easier than others, and some will take all you have to give leaving no room to undo the changes that were forced upon you, but even in darkness, our eyes will adjust.
Adjusting to life in prison is just something that all of us that come here have to do. It’s a powerless feeling, it’s an emotional rollercoaster, and for some, it can be such an adjustment that the end result is death. I’ve seen this with my own eyes as they were adjusting to the darkness.
But not all adjustments to this place are dark. If you seek the light and do what’s right, sometimes a bigger picture will evolve into something beautiful, and sometimes from your dark place the light is so bright that you can’t help but to spot what’s in the distance and start preparing for another adjustment. Freedom!!!
