THOUGHTS ON LAW AND ORDER

Someone made the comment, that a criminal has no respect for law and order, but that’s not true. I have been a criminal for a very long time, and I have gained myself a just sentence as a result of my behavior. This is not something I would ever deny; not something I would ever claim to be unfair. Law and order is something which a society needs. Rules laid down to enforce a code of morality and honor; an institution of conduct based on common sense goodness. The ability to summon the police for an issue of safety; the knowledge of assurance that the enforcement, and restrictions of certain aspects of life, all help to contribute to the sense of well being and security, all good things. Such things are necessary for happiness and comfort, productivity, and contribution to an ever climbing society.

How could I have anything but respect for such noble pillars of justice and righteousness? I cannot hate the police for my mother’s sake; I cannot hate the police for the children’s sake; I cannot hate the police for every good and decent person within the society of life who is simply living to the best of their ability. Simply because I have acted contrary to the laws of the land, does not mean I wish law and order to cease being. Can one imagine the chaos that would result from such a thing? How strange a position I find myself in when I, as a life-sentenced prisoner, must speak words in support of law and order, while those living free slander and seek to abolish such things.

I wonder if here in “the land of the free”, near absolute freedom is a recipe for insanity.
