So many times I’ve trembled in fear,
my heart in my throat, sweat on my skin.
I smell myself
So many times, I couldn’t figure it out, why a child is here with danger about.
Danger that’s dark and evil and ripe, actions without morals that last through the night.
So many times I’ve lied there awake listening to voices of peril and hate.
As footsteps approach I brace for attack, the doors barred with a knife as I peek through a crack.
I pray to God hiding in the light, please stop this from happening, please see my plight.
