Another night, I sit awake in bed.
A million thoughts at once running through my head.
I look to my side, there you are, next to me.
Is this real, or is this just a dream. A soft glow filters in.
Moonlight reflects off your skin. My mind calms as I watch you sleep.
Your body a silhouette beneath the sheet. My eyes trace every curve and every line.
Your legs, your hips and along your spine.
Every detail, the rhythm of your breath. Over and over so I never forget.
I reach for you and my heart beings to race.
I stop, just a hairs breadth away. I want to grab you and hold you tight.
Feel your skin against mine all through the night.
I feel your warmth beneath my fingertips. I look to your face as a smile crosses your lips.
Our eyes meet, I don’t want to look away. Next to you like this is where I want to stay.
Your hand touches my cheek and I cover it with mine.
You tell me it’s okay, everything is fine.
I smile back but the truth I know.
I hold your gaze but my eyes slowly close.
